What to Expect When You Come to
Occupational or Physical Therapy

When a person arrives for their first therapy session we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to allow time for registration. The secretary will have the patient sign in. A copy of your insurance card will be asked for, and all hospital papers that need to be signed will be reviewed. Once this is complete your therapist will take you to the area where you will be evaluated. Generally the first session is primarily completing an evaluation in order to develop the plan of care. Once the session is complete the therapist will answer any questions and provide any information needed at home prior to any subsequent visits. As the person leaves they will stop by the registration area to schedule the next appointment.

When patients come for subsequent appointments they will need to sign in and then will go directly to see the therapist. Again, return appointments will be scheduled at the conclusion of the session. Throughout care the therapists keep the physicians informed of the patient and their progress.

The therapists attempt to always keep the patients informed. Therefore as the patient is nearing discharge from services they should be aware of this. Once the last treatment session is complete services will end and a final report sent to the physician.

** Each patient who receives therapy is required to have a physicians order. We ask each patient to be sure to bring that order to the first visit to ensure that there is not a delay in services or even a need to re-schedule (in the event unable to contact the physician). We also recommend that patients check with their insurance provider to see if there insurance requires any form of pre-authorization or if their policy has any coverage limitations. When a person calls to schedule first appointment they should ask what clothing is appropriate to wear. **
